Free or temporary Chinese number: why it does not work for a car

Disposable and free Chinese numbers receive SMS, but a car master account cannot live on them. What exactly breaks, and what to do instead. (Yemen)

▸ Knowledge Base

Free and temporary Chinese numbers are fine for a one-off registration, but not for a car: they last minutes or a day, the SMS are visible to many people, and a master account is bound to its number permanently. Once such a number is gone, you lose access to the car — remote features, driver binding and updates. A car needs a permanent +86 number issued in your name.

In short: what matters

Why a temporary number works — but only once

Temporary-number services solve a narrow task: get one code to register somewhere once. For a messenger, a forum or a test sign-up that is enough.

The problem starts where the number is needed repeatedly. A car app is exactly that case: the number receives codes not only at registration, but later — when a second driver is bound, when the owner changes, when a password is reset or an operation is confirmed.

Four reasons it fails on a car

What to do instead

A car needs a number that belongs to you and lasts. We issue +86 on a foreign passport: the name in Latin script as in the document and the passport number. No document photos or selfies. Issuance takes 30 minutes to 2 hours.

The number runs on our side: no SIM to insert, any smartphone works, no QR code needed, and SMS arrive in the app on your phone. It is valid for one year and renewable, and we remind you in advance.

A word about "free"

A free Chinese number is always either a temporary number or a number owned by someone else's service. A real +86 cannot be free: the number is paid for to the carrier and is registered to a real person with a passport. If a service offers a number "for free", you are not the one paying — and you are not the one in control of it either.

Frequently asked questions

Can I register a Chinese car app on a free number?

A code may arrive, but the master account is bound to the number permanently. Once the temporary number is gone, there is nothing to recover access with: the confirmation code has nowhere to go.

How is a temporary number different from a KitSim number?

A temporary number lasts minutes or a day and belongs to a service, not to you. A KitSim number is registered to your foreign passport, valid for one year, renewable, and SMS arrive in the app on your phone.

Why can a real Chinese number not be free?

The number is paid for to the carrier and registered to a real person with a passport. If a service gives a number away for free, the service owner controls it, not you.

Is a free number dangerous for a car?

Yes. On public free numbers the confirmation codes are visible to strangers, so someone else may gain access to the car account.

What is needed to get a permanent +86 number?

The name in Latin script as in the document and the foreign passport number. No document photos and no selfies. Issuance takes 30 minutes to 2 hours.
